Those of us in the New York area who couldn’t be bothered with the Oscars were entertained by Bob Brainen on WFMU radio and tonight he played Joseph by JT. Archive of show is here:

Listening to Bob Brainen tonight (Sunday 20 Feb) and at 8:45 pm he played The Rain On The Mountainside. You guys keep George Bush over there and we’ll take Jake.

Bob played Old Molly Metcalfe on his show this Sunday 6th Feb – just after Eric Dolphy and Fairport Convention. Link below:

I find the song choices very interesting. Bob Brainen only heard of Jake in the last few months and, as an American has no ‘history’ with Jake. If you ask most Brits about Jake, I’m sure the majority will think of Braden’s Week and Sister Josephine, whereas Bob just has all these ‘new’ songs to choose from.

                So far he has played

                The Last Will and Testament
                Country Girl
                Pass Milord the Rooster Juice
                Ulysees
                The Black Swan

Well let’s get euphoric again – to balance the Beeb’s boob (can I say that?) Bob Brainen just played Jake yet again on WFMU in New York – the 4th time in 5 weeks – this time he played Country Girl and lamented Jake’s passing on, of all days, a Xmas eve. That will be available as an online archive – like all Bob’s shows – in perpetuity!

Very definite thumbs up from me – I loved hearing from Sheila and liked the ‘Start the Week with Robert Robinson’ format. I felt it could easily have gone on for another hour. Maybe we could petition the BBC to make it an Xmas eve tradition to play some Jake.

This is very cool Gordon! The new videos are great – I’m all psyched for the radio 2 show tomorrow – I hope the BBC stream is okay for us here in the colonies. Jake has become a bit of a regular on the WFMU New Jersey radio station – 3 plays in the last month. Hope the play makes it to Edinburgh for the festival – then I’ll be able to go when I visit my folks in Glasgow next summer.
Happy Festivus from NY to everybody in the Thackraysphere.

If the new chat facility is up maybe someone could bring a lap-top and ‘broadcast’ the gig to the world…………………just a thought.
At the very least we could use it to synchronise our toasts to Jake and to each other..

And the escapades of the daft brigades
                            Dismay, deride, demean, defame

Agree with Judith and Keith – perhaps the best illustration is to isolate the last two lines of the previous verse and link them – as Judith suggests – with the first two lines of the last verse.
